Our Space

Indoors + Outdoors
Wild Wapiti Playschool is located in downtown Fernie, upstairs on the 2nd floor of the Fernie Family Centre on 4th Ave. The Family Centre is also home to a preschool, LIttle Me, and several community programs for young families.
Our everyday outdoor play space, named the "Wapiti Woods" is located across the street in the Fernie Courthouse yard. This natural play space was developed in partnership with the The City of Fernie, Elk Valley Resources, and our many volunteers.
Mudkitchens, sandboxes, tires and more, the Wapiti Woods is our place to run, climb, play and explore. We have so many ideas for this space, we're excited to see them come to life.
Sunshine Room
(12-36 months)
Our Infant and Toddler classroom, named our Sunshine Room, is a bright, spacious environment thoughtfully designed to support early development. Filled with natural light and calming, nature-inspired elements, the space encourages exploration, comfort, and connection. A separate nap room ensures a peaceful, quiet place to rest.
We currently have eight spaces in our Sunshine Room with two dedicated educators, ensuring attentive, individualized care.

Aspen and Cedar Rooms
(30 months to School Age)
Our Aspen and Cedar Rooms welcome children aged 30 months to school age into engaging environments designed for active learning and discovery. With space for gross motor play, open-ended art and sensory experiences, and plenty of opportunities for child-led exploration, these classrooms encourage creativity, confidence, and independence.
We currently have ten spaces in our younger Aspen Room and twelve spaces in our older Cedar Room, with two educators in each classroom every day. These small class sizes and low student-to-educator ratios ensure meaningful connections and personalized support for every child.
